T!PS" - Guarding from Disaster - Gathered by Design For Communication for the GMCC Ed/Tech Committee: Week of- October 28, 2012 - Disaster "T!PS" Learned from Irene (Just Last Year):- Backup computer documents and programs ASAP, Take device off line; Have more then one WI-FI/cellular carrier (If one is down the other may be in service); Before the storm hits identify possible remote working locations- need a site that has both WI-FI and electric power outlets; Use UPS battery backup to power down desktop computer systems correctly; After the storm and for a limited time- work remotely from car battery (power adapter AC-DC converter required); For mobility, carry a USB jump (flash) drive with important documents; Stay in touch with business acquaintances and local services; If you have other T!PS please comment on our social media sites
