William Fries, manager, civil engineering, of Wallingford, has been named a principal at BL Companies. Mr. Fries has more than 14 years of civil engineering experience on a wide variety of projects. His qualifications include work in project management for various multi-site clients, site engineering and development, storm drainage and detention system design, various utility layouts and design and a familiarity with local, state and federal permitting processes. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in industrial technology at Keene State College.

Timothy P. Ryan, PE, of Tolland, manager of the transportation design group, has been named a principal at BL Companies. He has more than 14 years of engineering experience including the design of various traffic and transportation projects such as interchange and expressway design, railroad-highway grade crossings, intersection improvements and roadway design. Mr. Ryan, who is based in the company's Hartford office, is the highway engineer in charge of design development and quality control/quality assurance for roadway design projects. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Ryan earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's degree in water resources at the University of New Haven. He teaches transportation engineering at the University of New Haven.

John Schmitz, Jr., project manager, has been named a principal at BL Companies. Mr. Schmitz has more than 15 years of civil engineering experience on a wide variety of projects. His qualifications include work in project management for various multi-site clients, site engineering and development, storm drainage, floodplain analysis, and detention system design, horizontal and vertical road alignment, subsurface sewage disposal system design and a familiarity with local and state permitting processes. Mr. Schmitz earned a bachelor's of science degree in civil engineering from the University of New Haven in New Haven, CT. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Chris Majewski, of New Fairfield, has joined BL Companies as an environmental resources project manager. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the environmental health and natural resources management fields and has worked as a local and state regulatory official as well as a private consultant. Prior to joining BL Companies, he was a senior environmental analyst with ESM Associates, Inc., Danbury, CT. His responsibilities will include a wide range of projects with natural resource, inland wetland and environmental components. Mr. Majewski received a bachelor's of science degree in natural resources from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. He subsequently pursued part-time graduate studies at the University of Rhode Island and University of Massachusetts in environmental and soil science. He is a certified soil scientist, a wetland scientist and a licensed registered sanitarian. Additionally, he is a member of the Society of Soil Scientists, Southern New England, and the Society of Wetland Scientists.

Robert Celata, of Durham, CT, has joined BL Companies as director of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering (MEP) division. He has more than 30 years experience in a wide range of markets, most notably, education, health care and industrial infrastructure. Prior to joining BL Companies, he was vice president at HP Engineering in North Haven, CT. According to David Ball, AIA, president, BL Companies, "I am very happy that Bob Celata has joined BL Companies as the director of the MEP group. He is a highly respected leader in the engineering industry, and has been a long-time friend of the firm. BL Companies has offered MEP services since 1997, but Bob's addition to our leadership enables MEP to become its own group. The new MEP group is an important step, and a clear demonstration of our commitment to MEP and our company's commitment to fully integrated services." In his new position, Mr. Celata's responsibilities will include the supervision of the MEP department, marketing and expanding the MEP department to provide services throughout the Northeast. He will continue to showcase his extensive experience in HVAC, construction administration, negotiation, client-project development and the budgetary process through the project review and design stages as well as to supervise and coordinate construction efforts. Over the years, he has worked on projects based in Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Florida and Nebraska. Mr. Celata graduated from Porter School of Architectural and Civil Design in Rocky Hill, CT. He is a certified energy auditor with the State of Connecticut and holds membership in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. and the National Fire Protection Association.
