February 14, 2002

Hollywood came to Meriden recently as the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center held their first film festival featuring Janet Leigh, best known for her shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". The weekend festivities included a dinner reception for Leigh at the Center followed by a screening of "Psycho"; viewings of "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Touch of Evil"; and concluded with a book signing. Janet Leigh came to Meriden at the request of Meriden author, Laura Van Wormer who edited Leigh's 1984 autobiography, "There Really Was a Hollywood". Leigh's trip to Meriden came just before she was to take off on a book tour to promote her new novel, "The Dream Factory". The festival was the first big event for the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center and Leigh was quite impressed by the restoration of the building and New England feel of the Center.
