July 16, 2013

On June 26th, the First Annual Meriden Pizza War at the Augusta was held with 8 area pizza establishments participating. Participants included Avanti Restaurant, Bella Luna, Castello Pizza, Charlie's Pizza, Family Pizza, Hubbard Park Pizza, Little Caesar's and Napoli Pizza. The competition was fierce with pizzas ranging from strawberries and goat cheese, mashed potato and bacon, deep dish pepperoni, tomato and basil, meat lovers, cheese, plain, etc. Over 250 people came, sampled and voted for their favorite pizza.

The results were extremely close...Avanti Restaurant has the honor of being the winner of the 1st Annual Meriden Pizza War at the Augusta. Separated by a few votes, Hubbard Park and Castello Pizza finished second and third, respectively. The proceeds from the event will help to fund the Summer Music Camp at the Augusta, which is being held July 8-19. The Camp will provide an affordable and educational summer music experience of chorus, band and/or orchestra to local students entering grade 5-9.

The Augusta Curtis Cultural Center would like to thank all of the participating pizza establishments and all of the attendees who came to support the Camp and the Center.
