Meriden Health Dept. Presents Tobacco Free Tuesdays Beginning April 2nd

March 31, 2013

Spring is a season for new beginnings and a good time to renew your New Year's resolutions! Most smokers try 6 to 8 times before finally quitting for good. We have a program that can help you quit. A smoking cessation counselor is available for one-one-one meetings. You can also come to Tobacco Free Tuesdays, a support group that meets weekly from 5:30-6:30pm at the Health Department (165 Miller Street). A start-up supply of the nicotine patch, gum, or lozenge is given to those who enroll in the program; this, along with meeting with the counselor, has been shown to increase success in quitting. Those who join will learn how to prepare for a quit date, develop ways to deal with cravings and withdrawal symptoms, and plan how to cope with stressful situations to avoid starting smoking again. Quitting is hard but as Winston Churchill once said" "Never, never, never give up". To register or to obtain more information about this FREE program contact Geralyn at 203-630-4003 or e-mail glaut@meridenct.gov. The Connecticut Department of Public Health Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program provides funding for this program.
