Ten Things You May Not Know About The Meriden WIC Office1. WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children. It is a special supplemental nutrition program that provides education and healthy foods to eligible participants.
2. A family of 4 can make up to $42,643 a year or 821.00 a week and qualify for the WIC Program.
3. A pregnant woman and her husband/partner are considered a family of 3.
4. Women who are pregnant, post-partum (up to 6 months after birth) and breastfeeding (up to infant's 1st birthday), and infants and children (up to 5 years old) are in the WIC categories and may be eligible.
5. Fathers, grandparents, foster parents or other guardians may also apply for WIC for their children.
6. Nutritionists at the WIC office will help you to make healthy food choices for your family.
7. All Meriden WIC employees are Certified Lactation Counselors and are available to help eligible women who are interested in breastfeeding their infants.
8. Fruits and vegetables, milk, bread, cereal, eggs, cheese, juice, peanut butter, tuna, rice and beans and are some of the foods available through WIC. Formula and infant cereal are also available.
9. WIC staff provides referrals to other health and social programs to help families.
10. WIC is not an entitlement program. It is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
