The Health Department is offering the pneumococal vaccine to Meriden residents that are 65 years and older and have never received the vaccine. It will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at 165 Miller Street in Meriden. Please call 630-4234 to schedule an appointment. Pneumococal disease is a serious disease that causes much sickness and death. It kills more people in the U.S. each year than all other vaccine-preventable diseases combined. Some people are at greater risk, including people 65 years and older and people with special health problems. The cost is $20 and Medicare is accepted. For most people, the vaccine is a once in a lifetime vaccine - be certain to check with your doctor to see if you have already had the vaccine.
