Meriden & the Nation's Wars Open House

April 5, 2017

The Meriden Historical Society will be hosting an Open House at the Andrews Homestead for a special exhibit of "Meriden and the Nation's Wars" every Sunday in May from 11am to 3pm and on May 4th and May 18th from 5pm to 8pm. The theme will be Meriden's participation in our nation's wars resulting in our being named "The Nation's Ideal War Community." The Civil War, the Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, the Korean and the Vietnam wars will all be represented. The Andrews Homestead exhibit will represent Meriden during the Revolutionary war. A special section will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of WWI. Also featured will be the women of Meriden and their contributions both at home and overseas. Through Ancestry.com, one of our volunteers compiled information on the 144 men whose names are listed on the WWII monument. This information will be available during our open house. The permanent exhibits at the Andrews Homestead will also be available for viewing during this exhibit. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your stories of family members who have fought for our Country or supported the war effort at home.

The Andrews Homestead was built in 1760 just prior to the Revolutionary War. It stands a silent witness to that era. A recent donation to the Meriden Historical Society is a rare 1830's Shelf Clock originally made in Meriden by Orrin Cook.

The Andrews Homestead is located at 420 West Main St., Meriden. Admission is free. Donations are greatly appreciated.
