Fitch rates City of Meriden AA-

Fitch Ratings recently assigned its AA- rating to the city on $25.5 million in general obligations bonds and on $37.6 million in outstanding bonds, citing sound financial management, amidst mixed socioeconomic indicators, including high unemployment.An AA- rating is considered high among ratings agencies. Fitch said that the city's prudent and conservative budgeting practices have resulted in sound operating results somewhat offsetting pressure from potential reductions in state aid and increased costs for education.
