Need Input by Oct. 2 For Tweed New Haven Regional Airport Utilization Survey

September 26, 2013

Tweed New Haven Regional Airport is currently soliciting data from businesses regarding existing air travel patterns and expenditures, as well as anticipated air service needs in the coming year. The survey is intended to quantify the demand for air service and to pinpoint the most critical destinations. With accurate information regarding the potential market for increased destinations, the airport can make a compelling case for additional flights and carriers.

"Through extensive research, we are certain there is substantial demand for additional air service through Tweed. The purpose of this survey is to specify the precise needs of local businesses, large and small," airport Executive Director Tim Larson said. "Congestion on I-95 is an on-going concern and emphasizes the need for a robust multimodal transportation system. Certainly this week's Metro-North New Haven Line power failure and its impact on Amtrak service between New Haven and Washington drives that point home."

The business community has stressed the need for additional airport service to foster economic growth in the region for decades. Airport development is a key issue on the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative agenda, as well as the regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).

"Over the past year, REX Development has gathered information from representatives of the region to develop the action plan for economic growth for the region. Additional air service was the most commonly expressed need of the business community," stated Ginny Kozlowski, Executive Director of REX Development/Economic Development Corporation of New Haven. "As the home of world-renown institutions such as Yale University, Yale-New Haven Health Services, Assa Abloy/Sargent, Subway and Covidien, Greater New Haven needs a broad-based transportation infrastructure to support the region's role in the global economy.

All businesses with a significant demand for reliable and convenient air service are encouraged to complete the on-line survey available here. The survey will be open through Wednesday, October 2nd.
