January 23, 2007

Engineers are crucial to Connecticut's growing economy. That's why the State of Connecticut has launched a new program to help engineers pay back their student loans. The Connecticut Engineering Loan Reimbursement Program will pay up to $5,000 of student loans to individuals who: are legal residents of Connecticut; have outstanding student loans in their names; have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering from any college or university in the U.S.; and have been hired as a full-time engineer in Connecticut after December 31, 2005. Successful applicants will receive one payment as a reimbursement for qualifying student loans.Verification of student loans is required at the time of award notification. To apply, mail or fax a completed application (available by calling 800-842-0229) by March 30, 2007 to the Connecticut Department of Higher Education. With your application, include an official copy of your academic transcript indicating degrees and dates on which they were awarded. Include major concentration of study. Applicants will be notified in writing about their award by June 1, 2007. The Department of Higher Education anticipates making 50 awards this year. For questions or more information, contact the Education & Employment Information Center's (EEIC) toll-free Hotline at 800-842-0229 or eeic@ctdhe.org.
