250,000 Grant Supports MidState's Medical Center's Emergency Department Expansion. A recent $250,000 federal grant award will allow MidState Medical Center to acquire equipment for the $45.5 million dollar, 100,000 sq ft expansion project to be completed in two phases. The new emergency department will be completed by March of this year and renovation of the existing facility will be finished by September. The new department will more than double the hospital's ER capacity and streamline opera�tions to enhance patient flow while allowing for more imme-diate specialized care in an emergency. It will add 53 treatment spaces and 14 surgi�cal inpatient beds, including separate treatment sections for minor injuries and major emergency procedures. U.S. Rep. Christopher S. Murphy, D-5th District announced the grant award and toured the facility in January.
