On January 31st, more than 100 people gathered at Aqua Turf to honor chief executive officer Shane Rood, who spend 16 years of social service to the Meriden community. She and her husband Chuck will move to Tucson and eventually spend time on their boat in Rhode Island. Shane was the first woman president of the Rotary Club and encouraged many women to seek leadership positions in Meriden. Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. also praised Shane for her assistance to the people and programs of Wallingford. Lee Campione, a member of the Center's board of directors, commended Shane as the person who taught her about the community as a whole. Warren Stephan, founder and director of the Castle Craig Players, credited Shane with a major role in the revival of the downtown by helping him acquire the building for his theater. Meriden City Councilmember Laura Gallo lauded Shane with her vision to make all children equal and all families to receive the help they needed. Shane believes that young women may not be quite where they should be in terms of equality, but they have made progress. Her belief is to build for the future.
