In its search for a new chief operating officer, the selection committee of MidState Medical Center looked to Erik G. Wexler, vice president of business development and community relations at Waterbury Hospital for four years. According to Lucille Janatka, president and chief executive officer who worked with Mr. Wexler at Waterbury Hospital for four years, he has quickly adapted to his new position. Expansion of services to the public and finding additional revenue are two of Mr. Wexler's focal points. Mrs. Janatka noted that Mr. Wexler faced some stiff competition during the search process, but the selection committee was impressed by Mr. Wexler's enthusiasm and ability to deal with challenges. She also added that he has great skills in business, customer service and developing partnerships; he has the business savvy needed for the job, but also has the people skills to go along with it. Among Mr. Wexler's accomplishments are the creation of Access Rehabilitation Centers with Easter Seals, the development of Laboratory Service of Waterbury Hospital and Homecare Professionals. He also enabled Waterbury Hospital to open a store at Brass Mill City Mall offering computer terminals with Internet access to medical information and a mammography testing area.
