On Thursday, March 1st, the United Way saluted its donors and volunteers for helping raise $1,306,000 for the needy during their 2000-2001 fund-raising campaign. Chairman Brendan Goodrich was pleased to report that the campaign raised $58,000 more than the previous year, the fifth straight year of an increase. "Share the Wonder" was a first time program in which donors selected gift suggestions from a "giving tree" at the Westfield Shoppingtown Meriden and then bought gifts for needy children. Campaign co-chairwomen Cheryl Poryanda and Kimberly Taylor are optimistic about the 2001-02 drive. Among the companies recognized are Packard BioScience Co. and Bristol-Myers Squibb which hosted the annual tribute to donors and volunteers.
