BL Companies welcomes Maria Wilpon

Maria I. Wilpon, Assoc. AIA, ASLA, has joined BL Companies as the director of architecture, Manhattan office, and a principal of the firm. She has nearly 20 years experience ranging from planning and design to construction administration for new buildings and renovations, office and classroom interiors and streetscape projects.

Ms. Wilpon's responsibilities will include business development; coordination of all disciplines on local projects; ensuring a high level design quality for all projects; building BL's reputation within the community; overseeing the professional development, quality assurance, architectural standards of the architectural staff; staff recruitment; and developing the scope and price of local proposals.

She is a highly respected leader in the architecture industry and will be a welcome addition to BL Companies. Ms. Wilpon comes to BL Companies from Arquitectonica where she was the director of business development for education and the head director for ArquitectonicaGEO for the New York office. Previous positions include principal, Helpern Architects; designer, Kevin Walz Design; and designer, Paul Heyer Architects.

Ms. Wilpon earned a bachelor's of architecture degree at the University of Los Andes, Bogot�, Colombia, and a master's of architecture degree at Pratt Institute Graduate School of Design, NY. Fluent in Spanish and Italian, she is an affiliate member of ASLA; a board member of the Society for College and University Planning and New York Professional Business Women Network; member of the American Institute of Architects and Society for Marketing Professional Services; and the New York regional representative for NASCUP Council.
