Protein Sciences Corporation announced today that the Board of Directors elected Drs. Manon M.J. Cox, MBA, the Company's Chief Operating Officer. Manon joined the Company in 1998 as Director of Business Development. She was promoted to Vice President, Business Development in 1999 and to Vice President, Corporate and Business Development in 2001. She previously worked for Gist-brocades B.V., most recently as Manager, New Business Development-Biopharmaceuticals, where she was employed in various positions in research, production, marketing and sales. She was responsible as a line manager for optimization of production processes at a manufacturing plant in Belgium, as a project manager for the development of a detergent enzyme and a research scientist in bacterial genetics. Prior thereto, she was a research scientist at the University of Amsterdam. Drs. Cox received a Doctorandus Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands), a degree in economics from the Open University (Netherlands) and an MBA with distinction from the University of Nijenrode (Netherlands) and the Simon Business School, University of Rochester (U.S.A.).Daniel Adams, President and CEO, commented, "Manon has been the principal driver of the success of our GeneXpress� business and our transformation from a company losing more than $5 million annually to one that is profitable and cash flow positive with outstanding growth potential." He added, "The action of our Board recognizes her tremendous contribution and importance to the success of our business."
Founded in 1983, Protein Sciences (www.proteinsciences.com) is the world leader in developing genes coding for proteins into commercial human and veterinary vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics using its proprietary baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS) technology that includes its patented expresSF+� serum free, high yielding, scalable insect cell line. Customers access PSC's proprietary BEVS technology through its GeneXpress� program. This allows them to obtain cGMP human and animal clinical materials more reliably, rapidly and less expensively than through alternative protein expression systems. PSC also has several patented products in development including influenza vaccines, recombinant hemagglutinin and neuraminidase (both of which have completed Phase II clinical trials), erythropoietin and an insect-cell based adjuvant (both of which have completed animal tests).
