CT State Middlesex Names Campus Dean of Students & Faculty

Donna Bontatibus, Ph.D., has been named the campus Dean of Students and Faculty at CT State Community College Middlesex. Dr. Bontatibus previously served as the Interim Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at Middlesex Community College. (After a state-wide community college merger on July 1, 2023, the college was renamed CT State Middlesex).

"It is my absolute pleasure to announce Donna Bontatibus as the Dean of Students and Faculty for our Middlesex campus. I am confident that Donna will provide leadership for a comprehensive student experience agenda designed to promote belonging, well-being and achievement for all of our students," said Kimberly Hogan, Chief Executive Officer at CT State Middlesex. "Donna is a proven effective leader with the compassion for students and faculty needed in higher education today."

Reporting to CEO Hogan, the Dean of Students and Faculty is responsible for managing the daily operation of the academic and student services of the campus, working closely with academic and student affairs. This position collaborates with CT State Community College administration to ensure effective class and campus service delivery while fostering strong relationships with campus faculty and staff.

"Our faculty and staff are outstanding at what they do each day, with the goal of providing an enriching educational environment for our students to thrive," said Dr. Bontatibus. "In this new role, I look forward to working with CT State Middlesex, our faculty and staff, for our students and the communities we serve."

Dr. Bontatibus has served on multiple committees, including the College Cabinet, Executive Council, Academic Council, Curriculum Committee, Academic Deans Council, Center for Civic Engagement Committee, DEI Council, among several others. She also has worked with the GEAR UP Team to enhance college and career readiness of low-income students in collaboration with Meriden Public Schools and served as an advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter at Middlesex.

As a leader within her profession, Dr. Bontatibus has presented regionally and nationally, leading workshops designed to enrich and engage other instructors. Her topics have included Teaching Essentials 101, Creating College Success Learning Communities, and Writing across the Curriculum. She has conducted workshops for the Connecticut Coalition of English Teachers, Literacy Volunteers of America, and the Connecticut Community College system.

Dr. Bontatibus began working full-time at Middlesex as an English faculty member in 2004 and progressed to full professor by 2010. She also served as chair of the Humanities and Arts Division at Middlesex from 2011 to 2014, and later held roles as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Interim Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.

She received the 2006 Governor's Service Award for Connecticut and the 2005 Merit Recognition Award from Middlesex Community College. She earned a doctorate and master's degree in English from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor's degree in English from Albertus Magnus College.
