The Friends of the Library received a Connecticut ...

The Friends of the Library received a Connecticut Treasures award in recognition of its many contributions. Lt. Governor Jodi Rell presented the award, along with thanks for being a Treasure. The Friends established their bookstore in 1984, which turns all profits back to the library. Among the group's contributions is the library's first internet station, along with audio books and videotapes. Vice President Laura Gallo was honored by the award because the volunteers' time was given for the library. Lt. Governor Rell originated the Connecticut Treasures award three years ago Each month she recognizes one individual and one group in the state. Lois DeMayo said the Friends group works hard for the city. Mayor Mark Benigni praised the Friends group and thanked them. State Representative James Abrams, a former president of Friends, praised the group for being eager to help others rather than seek recognition.
