Meriden Library Celebrating the Life of Pura Belpre

During the month of February, Meriden Public Library will be celebrating the life of Pura Belpré, talented author and storyteller who wrote and re-interpreted Puerto Rican folk tales. She was the first Latina librarian in the New York Public Library system and a strong advocate for the Spanish-speaking community. In honor of Ms. Belpré the library will have the following programs:- Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 am: Bilingual Story Hour/Cuentacuentos. We will read a Juan Bobo folk tale, as interpreted by Pura Belpré
- Tuesday, February 2 at 6:00 pm: the film"Pura Belpré, a Storyteller" will be shown followed by a birthday cake and talk with University of Connecticut Professor Lisa S�nchez Gonz�lez (Snow date is Thursday, February 11 at 6:00 pm)
-Saturday, February 13 at 2:30 pm - Storyteller Leeny Del Seamonds will present "Vive al Cuento"/Live the Story" family stories/Latino traditional tales with audience participation (Snow date is February 20, 2016 at 2:30 pm)
Tuesday, February 16 at 3:30 pm - Puppeteer Mathew Leonard from Lionheart Puppets will perform "The Emperor's New Clothes"
During February, in the hallway to the children's library, the Pura Belpré Traveling Exhibit, courtesy of Centro de Esudios Puertorique�os Hunter College, will be on display.
