The Meriden Public Library is celebrating its Cent ...

May 7, 2003

The Meriden Public Library is celebrating its Centennial this year, and coinciding with the event will be the arrival of additional public access computers in our community. With a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Meriden Public Library will receive ten new Gateway E-6000 computers with 512 mg of RAM, Pentium IV processors, DVD players, compact disk burners, flat screen monitors, and a new laser printer. All of computers will have Internet access. These computers will expand the services that the library currently provides through the Kiwanis Computer Learning Center. The computers have the capability of being logged on in a large print mode for those who are sight challenged, and can be run in several foreign languages as well. In order to use the equipment, patrons are required to have a library card, and to read the Library's computer usage guidelines and complete a quick information survey. Children under the age of eight require the presence of an adult to use the equipment. Use of the equipment will be on a first-come, first served basis. These computers may be used in blocks of up to one hour in time. The library also has computers that users may reserve for one hour time slot in person or by phone up to one week in advance. Because of the tremendous demand for these computers, all patrons will be limited to two hours of computer use per day. For questions on computer use, please call the Information Desk at 238-2346
