SustiNet Agreement Reached With Malloy Administration

May 17, 2011

Juan A. Figueroa, president at Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut, released a statement saying he was pleased an agreement was reached with the Malloy administration and legislative leadership. The agreement keeps SustiNet on a solid track and moves state health reform forward in coordination with federal reform.

"It puts health reform innovation and cost control squarely in the governor's office, and goes much further than the so-called SustiNet budget deal. It creates an accountable infrastructure and outlines concrete steps for moving forward with the key features of SustiNet.

"The agreement calls for a business plan to be completed by July 2012, moving forward with the development of a nonprofit, public insurance option. The development of a SustiNet business plan is clear recognition of the need for an affordable option for small businesses and individuals left behind by the for-profit health insurance system."
