Philip H. Hall, the third generation to run the company, passed away in January at age 84. The company was founded in 1854 by his grandfather Russell Hall behind his home on East Main Street. Russell was 18 at the time and soon became one of the Yankee tin peddlers known throughout New England. In 1922 Philip's father Howard took over the company and expanded the product line to include paper products, grocery supplies an toys. The next year, the company moved to 19-23 North George Street and concentrated on paper products. In 1946, Philip inherited the family business, which now offers more than 2,500 different paper goods and janitorial supplies to over 2,000 customers in Connecticut. Philip continued a tradition of honesty and dependability. As a member of the Rotary Club for 50 years, he never missed a meeting and served as president of the Meriden chapter in 1957.He was a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, the United Way and the First Baptist Church. Tributes were being paid to him by current Rotary President Michael Barker and William Rosa, vice-president of operations at the company.
