Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation Sponsors Naugatuck Historical Society's First Thursdays Program

Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation Sponsors Naugatuck Historical Society's First Thursdays Program. Naugatuck, CT, March 29, 2013 � The Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation awarded a $4,000 grant to the Naugatuck Historical Society to sponsor its First Thursdays program.

"We are pleased to partner with the Historical Society to support their First Thursdays program," said Charles J. Boulier III, President and CEO, Naugatuck Savings Bank. "The bank has long been part of Naugatuck's history, so it's important to us to help tell the town's story and share its historical significance." "Because of the additional support from the Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation, First Thursdays this year will include hands-on activities for children, new exhibits, presentations and erformances," said Wendy Murphy, President of the Naugatuck Historical Society.

"We have already had a great response to the program and look forward to being able to continue to present interesting and relevant programs for the community." The First Thursdays program offers additional evening hours and a unique experience each month for families. It is held on the first Thursday of every month from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Naugatuck Historical Society, 195 Water Street, Naugatuck.

Upcoming programs: April- "Citizen Soldier Meets an Online Civil War Museum" Students from Naugatuck High School will share their online Civil War Museum; and Karl Bacon, author of "An Eye For Glory" will share some of the daily struggles of the soldiers in the army during the Civil War. May -Salem Bridge Clocks by Mary Jane Dapkus and a hands-on reverse painting activity. About the Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation Devoted to its local communities, the Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation was founded in 1998. Since its inception, the Foundation's cumulative grants have exceeded $4 million to deserving non-profit organizations to support a broad range of programs and services that are consistent with the Foundation's mission to contribute to the betterment of the communities it serves. The Foundation considers a broad range of requests to assist and promote economic development, human services, education and the arts.

About the Naugatuck Historical Society- The Naugatuck Historical Society was founded in 1959, and is a membership-supported non-profit organization bringing together people who are interested in history, and especially in the history of Naugatuck, Connecticut, and environs. The organization has approximately 200 members, and their office and museum are located in the renovated Naugatuck train station. Its mission is to bring together those people interested in the history of Naugatuck; to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area; to endeavor to provide for the preservation of items of historic significance; to cooperate with officials in insuring the preservation of records and archives of the town; and to disseminate historical information and attempt to arouse interest in the past.
