A free, 20-week program, the Parent Leadership Training Institute, has trained 48 parents the skills needed to become advocates and leaders for their children during its three years in Meriden. Eight parents recently celebrated their completion of the course, with a key speech given by Chamber First Vice President James Ieronimo. During the weekly class, parents met with people active in government or the community and visited the State Capitol to view the General Assembly. Hilda Santiago, the parent chairwoman for Children First Initiative, strongly believes that the program will enable their graduates to become community leaders.
