More than 100 people gathered to honor graduates of the Parent Leadership Training Institute which was sponsored by Children First Initiative. The 20-week parent empowerment training program is designed to provide parents with the tools needed to become not only advocates but also role models. Throughout the program's duration, each parent leader was required to complete a community project; some included a brochure on grandparents raising children, an introductory brochure on asthma, a push for a traffic light at Maloney High School, a campaign for improved bus transportation the City and better recreation programs in city parks. David Radcliffe of the Children First Initiative in Meriden noted that it was an extremely powerful evening as parents shared experiences.
