July 19, 2006

The Meriden, CT law firm of Brown & Welsh, P.C. is co-sponsoring a symposium on "Transatlantic Perspective in Alternative Dispute Resolution" with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the St. Johns University School of Law. The symposium will be held in London from July 26-28, 2006.

Houston Putnam Lowery of Brown & Welsh will be chairing the panel on international commercial arbitration. He will be speaking on interim measures of protection and the recent developments at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). "As international trade increases, it becomes important to have an effective way to resolve the inevitable disputes between trading partners" said Lowry. "While courts are used in the United States, domestic judgments are not always enforced overseas."

Lowry has done hundreds of arbitrations as a neutral arbitrator, including ICANN domain name disputes. He earned the Chartered Arbitrator designation, which is awarded by examination. He is a freeman (citizen) of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators in London. Closer to home, he has testified before the United States Congress and the Connecticut General Assembly on arbitration and mediation issues.

Brown & Welsh has a national reputation in business law (domestic and international) and related litigation, arbitration and mediation, including contracts, Uniform Commercial Code (sale of goods, promissory notes, electronic transfer of funds, letters of credit and security interests), bankruptcy, and computer law (including domain name disputes and identity theft).
