Description: Gallery 53 will host the Gifts For All Occasions Arts & Crafts Fair. The fair will include unique and one-of-a-kind gifts for showers, graduations, weddings, birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Confirmations, Holy Communions, garden decorations and more. Shopping hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 4:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

 Chamber Young Business Leaders Committee Meeting

Description: As one of the newest committees affiliated with the Chamber, members of the Young Business Leaders come together to engage in community life and expand professional and social opportunities. This group is geared toward professionals between the ages of 21 and 39 however the young at heart are always welcome. All committee chairs and officers must be between the ages of 21-39. We welcome new members to serve as ambassadors for the Central Connecticut area.

YBL meetings are held twice per month, including a morning business meeting held at the Midstate Chamber of Commerce and an evening social meeting held at various restaurants throughout the local area. Each meeting poses the opportunity to meet new people and develop projects that enrich our community.

Backlund started his career in 1973 when he met well-known professional wrestler "Superstar" Billy Graham, who encouraged him to pursue a career in professional wrestling. Just five years later, in 1978, Backlund won the world championship when he pinned Graham. This book tells the phenomenal story of the foty year career of wrestling's most famous men. Description: In partnership with the town of Wallingford, Masonicare is pleased to announce a FREE educational presentation "Understanding and Treating Depression & Anxiety." Dr. Richard Kull, Outpatient Psychiatrist at Masonicare Behavioral Health, will discuss conditions of depression and anxiety, how to recognize them, how professionals understand them, and what tools psychiatry uses to address them. Dr. Kull will also discuss common symptoms, Characteristics, and signs that help guide diagnosis, as well as how these conditions can be overcome. Dr. Kull will also address audience questions and concerns.

Dr. Kull is a graduate of Duke University, Where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and his medical degree. He completed his medical internship and residency in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is a board-certified psychiatrist who has worked in a number of different hospital settings, both as a psychiatrist administrator.

Description: A thirty-day public examination and comment period will begin on Thursday, April 21, 2016 and end on May 20, 2016 for the SFY 16-17 Action Plan, which is the second annual implementation plan under the State of Connecticut 2015-2019 Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development (ConPlan). The ConPan is a five-year strategic plan the governs the administration of federal funding appropriated for housing and community development activities that benefit persons of low - and moderate-income. Such federal funding includes the following programs: HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), Small Cities/Community Development Block Grant (SC/CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and Housing Opportunities for persons with AIDS (HOPWA).

In addition, the State of Connecticut is required to describe its plan for the implementation of the new National Housing Trust Fund, which is anticipated to provide up to 3,000,000 in the next fiscal year. The SFY 16-17 Action Plan represents approximately $24 million in federal funding for those five programs.

 Battleship Connecticut and the Great White Fleet by author Mark Albertson

Description: Author Mark Albertson will be presenting the story of the Battleship Connecticut."On December 16, 1907, sixteen battleships steamed out of Hampton Roads. Over the next fourteen months, they circumnavigated the globe, returning to Hampton Roads on February 22, 1909, George Washington’s birthday. Forever known to history as the Great White Fleet, these coal-burning battleships had steamed an astounding 46,729 miles! USS Connecticut: Constitution State Battleship is the story of the ship that led that historic voyage, a voyage which proved to be the greatest peacetime demonstration of naval power in modern maritime history" (USS Connecticut by Mark Albertson)

Mark Albertson is an historical research editor at Army Aviation magazine; and, is the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America. Mark is a long time member of the United States Naval Institute and teaches at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut. Mark has also written three books: USS Connecticut: Constitution State Battleship, They’ll have to follow you! The Triumph of the Great White Fleet, and On History: A Treatise.

Description: In partnership with the town of Wallingford, Masonicare is pleased to announce a FREE educational presentation "Understanding and Treating Depression & Anxiety." Dr. Richard Kull, Outpatient Psychiatrist at Masonicare Behavioral Health, will discuss conditions of depression and anxiety, how to recognize them, how professionals understand them, and what tools psychiatry uses to address them. Dr. Kull will also discuss common symptoms, characteristics, and signs that help guide diagnosis, as well as how these conditions can be overcome. Dr. Kull will also address audience questions and concerns.

Dr. Kull is a graduate of Duke University, Where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and his medical degree. He completed his medical internship and residency in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is a board-certified psychiatrist who has worked in a number of different hospital settings, both as a psychiatrist administrator.

Description: Since May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery, Americans have set aside a day in May to remember those who have died in service to our country.

On behalf of the City of Meriden and the United Veterans Council Memorial Day Committee, we would like to invite you to participate in the 2016 Memorial Day Parade. The parade will take place on the "traditional" Memorial Day.

The 2016 parade route will be from Markham Place on Curtis Street, NORTH onto Broad Street (VETERANS MEMORIAL BOULEVARD) and WEST onto East Main Street to the Meriden City Hall. A formal Memorial Day ceremony will take place at City Hall, at the parade conclusion, approximately 11:00 a.m.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Remembering our Veterans- All Wars”. YBL meetings are held twice per month, including a morning business meeting held at the Midstate Chamber of Commerce and an evening social meeting held at various restaurants throughout the local area.  2016 Travelers Championship

Monday, August 01, 2016 through Sunday, August 07, 2016

Description: HARTFORD, Conn., July 23, 2015 -- The Travelers Championship today announced the 2016 event will be held August 1 - 7. The tournament, typically played in June, will be moved to August for one year to accommodate the Olympic year PGA TOUR schedule and updates to TPC River Highlands that will enhance the fan and player experiences. The 2017 Travelers Championship will return to its customary third week in June.

"Golf's return to the Olympics for the first time since 1904 will affect the majority of PGA TOUR events taking place from June through August," said Travelers Championship Tournament Director, Nathan Grube. "By working closely with the PGA TOUR, we identified the best timing for recruiting a strong player field and finishing the planned modifications to TPC River Highlands."

Next year's August date allows for the completion of a multi-million dollar course project at TPC River Highlands. Fan and competitive enhancements to the course will begin in the fall and are slated to be completed in 2016. Some of these updates include new areas for grandstands and fan viewing around the signature four finishing holes, modifications to greens, and renovations to bunkers throughout the course. Holding the tournament in August for one year will allow additional time to ensure the course will be ready to host world-class PGA TOUR competition.

"We're already looking forward to another great tournament that will generate significant funds for charity in 2016," added Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Travelers. "With the 2016 PGA Championship in New Jersey the week before our event, we're expecting the 2016 Travelers Championship field to be as strong as ever."

Description: As one of the newest committees affiliated with the Chamber, members of the Young Business Leaders come together to engage in community life and expand professional and social opportunities. This group is geared toward professionals between the ages of 21 and 39 however the young at heart are always welcome. All committee chairs and officers must be between the ages of 21-39. We welcome new members to serve as ambassadors for the Central Connecticut area.

YBL meetings are held twice per month, including a morning business meeting held at the Midstate Chamber of Commerce and an evening social meeting held at various restaurants throughout the local area. Each meeting poses the opportunity to meet new people and develop projects that enrich our community.
