MEDCO will offer education awards to public and parochial students who would otherwise have no possibility of attending college. Gifted pupils will be identified in eighth grade and awarded points for academic achievement throughout middle and high schools. The idea was accepted by the Distribution Committee of the CUNO Foundation, established by Charles Cuno in 1947. Students who have achieved sufficient points will be eligible to receive college scholarships upon high school graduation. James Ieronimo, adult education facilitator and MEDCO board member, hopes this program will encourage students to stay in school. MEDCO recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, boasting of several accomplishments including the implementation of enterprise zones in the city, attracting MicroGeneSys to Meriden, and the completion of the Meriden Business & Learning Center.
