Meriden Historical Society Opens Museum in October

The Meriden Historical Society will open its museum to the public in October. They will be showcasing their permanent collection and a private collection of Meriden Post Cards.

The exhibit of the Colonial era, circa 1760, at the Andrews Homestead will be divided into 2 major sections. The main level will feature a special exhibit of Meriden Post Cards as well as an overview of items manufactured in Meriden. Among items on exhibit are ornate Victorian silverplate and more modern items manufactured by the International Silver Company and its predecessors; Lamps made by several Meriden companies including Handel, Miller, Bradley & Hubbard, Rainaud; chrome ware of the Manning Bowman Company; Items manufactured by the Charles Parker Company (from clocks to firearms); hand decorated wares of the C. F. Monroe Company; decorative items manufactured by the Bradley and Hubbard Company; glass, cut glass and silver on glass produced by Meriden Flint Glass, Silver City cut glass, Rockwell Silver and other Meriden glass makers, Organs manufactured by the Wilcox and White company; New Departure ball bearings; Meriden Telephones; items related to the Meriden Fire and Police Departments, and more.

The upstairs has 4 educational rooms with permanent exhibits: one dedicated to old toys and dolls, one dedicated to the art of spinning, ?one dedicated to sleeping arrangements and a room dedicated to old time diversions such as old cameras, music and hand carved furniture by master carver Emil Koffinke.

The Andrews Homestead is located at 424 West Main St., Meriden, CT. IT will be open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday's in October (10-2, 10-9, 10-16, 10-23, and 10-30-16). The cost is free but donations are gratefully accepted.
