On May 3, 2007, the Women and Families Center is once again holding the Women in Leadership Benefit Luncheon honoring seven women of Meriden, Middlesex County and Greater New Haven for their contributions to the community and to their personal fields of expertise. This year's winners are Linda Berger-Spivack (Meriden), Jeanne Cooper (Hamden), Shyamala Raman (Saint Joseph College), Winnie Standish (Middletown), Suzanne Visciglia (Greater New Haven), Dorsey Kendrick (New Haven), and the Chamber's own Rosanne Ford (Meriden). The awardees represent a variety of disciplines. Linda Berger-Spivack, for example, receives the award for Health Care Management for her work at Mid-State Medical Center and in professional nursing organizations. Dorsey Kendrick is being recognized in the field of Higher Education for her visionary leadership of Gateway Community College. Winnie Standish will be awarded for her dedication to the field of Allied Health, as shown by her work with the students of Middlesex Community College. We are also pleased to announce that the Connecticut Woman in Leadership of 2007 is Rebecca Lobo, recipient of numerous basketball honors for her collegiate and professional career. Ms. Lobo is also well known for her work as a television analyst, author, and motivational speaker. Women and Families Center is a multi-faceted human service agency serving Meriden, Wallingford, Cheshire, Middlesex County and 12 towns in New Haven County. The Center is committed to eliminating injustice and to improving the quality of life for women and families, through services that foster empowerment and independence. Programs include school-readiness early childhood education, school-age programming, youth outreach and recreation, employment and training, and sexual assault crisis services.
