Young people between the ages of 16 and 21, out of ...

October 19, 2000

Young people between the ages of 16 and 21, out of work and out of school, may be eligible for a postgraduate program this year, possibly at no charge. Co-ordinator Marilyn Daly stated that, as part of the effort to provide technical training for the financially disadvantaged, the program will enable participants to acquire skills which they can apply directly to the work force. The Mid-Connecticut Workforce Development Board will pay for the program, which has been reinstated after a four-year lapse. Free tuition will be provided to those meeting an income requirement. Applicants must demonstrate a need for training in accordance with the Federal Job Training Act requirements for funding of such programs. There are only five openings because of the low amount of funding that Wilcox received this year. Applicants may choose a trade area, but only among those still available, and will not receive any academic instruction. The program will last one year or slightly longer if the specific curriculum requires. There is no deadline for applications, but they will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
