New Director Richard Cavallaro announced that freshmen began the school year by spending 15 days sampling the 14 trade areas. Usually, students begin with academics, but this new schedule is similar to that offered by some prestigious colleges and universities, according to Thomas Murphy, a spokesman for the Connecticut State Department of Education. Students are being offered the opportunity to sample various areas of interest and to learn what they wish to pursue. Those who at first did not find the program meaningful changed their minds after realizing how much valuable information they had gained outside their areas of interest.. Wilcox General Education Chairman Dan Nemergut was pleased with the increased enrollment in past years. Students also admit that they have learned how to present themselves for the business world. The school is also undergoing major renovations which will include new bathrooms, ceilings and lights.
