The United Way Foundation of Central Connecticut has elected its board of directors and officers at its recent annual meeting as well as announcing that the foundation received a major gift. The board includes: Phillip T. Ashton, president; John F. Phelan, Sr., vice president; William Meade, secretary; David E. Wyskiel, treasurer; and Bruce Fontanella, Paul H. Miller, John Penwell, Rosemary C. Propper and John Wooding. There was also a major stock gift from John F. Phelan, Sr. for $100,000 to be paid over three years. In keeping with the primary purpose of the foundation, Phelan restricted the principal to remain in perpetuity in the foundation with the annual income used to benefit United Way of Meiden and Wallingford. The Foundation has just made its first of may contributions to the United Way of Meriden and Walling, representing a portion of its earnings to date.
