Inc. Magazine included BL Cos. on its list of the nation's 500 fastest growing private companies. In 1994, sales totaled $5.6 million; the current figure is $22 million. In the spring, BL Cos. was listed among the top 500 design firms in the U.S. by Engineering News-Record. The company has also submitted plans to the city for a 3,900 square-foot building at 211 Pomeroy Ave., to hold BL Analytical, which specializes in field research. Besides offices, the building would house a drilling rig and mobile environmental laboratory, said project manager Robert Burns. BL Analytical is now housed at the company's headquarters on Research Parkway. The plan also provides for a tentative 6,100 square-foot addition, if required at a later date. The building would allow for the addition of more personnel at the Research Parkway headquarters, where the number of staff has rapidly grown from 63 when the company moved to the city in 1998, to about 100. Overall, the company has 220 employees at offices in Baltimore, Detroit, New York City, Tampa, Poughkeepsie, Richmond, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.
