The New England Associated Press News Executive As ...

April 17, 2000

The New England Associated Press News Executive Association has cited three Connecticut newspapers for their recognition in the public service award competition held annually. The Record-Journal took third place for newspapers under 40,000 circulation for its three-part series detailing the bankruptcy of Carabetta Enterprises. It was written by reporters Julie Fishman, Mary Ellen Godin and Eric Cotton; Mr. Cotton has since been promoted to suburban editor. Associate Editor Michael Kelley, City Editor Jacqueline Smith and Assistant Managing Editor Glenn Richter edited their work. The series detailed the rise and fall of Joseph Carabetta's development companies and its struggle to remain solvent throughout bankruptcy court.
