September 18, 2002

Nine housing authority residents recently graduated from a computer training class aimed at developing business skills and computer literacy. The eight week Achievement Business Learning Employment (ABLE) program was sponsored by the MHA and will continue, covering resume writing and interviewing skills. "This is one of the many programs we offer through the Meriden Housing Authority," said housing authority board chairman Kevin Danby. "It empowers people to be self-sufficient. This program has been so successful that there have been requests for an advanced course." Program graduates included Modesta Baez, Ana Colon, Demetrius Copeland, Elizabeth Cross, Theresa James, Diana Puglisi, Carmen Rivera, and Gladys Soto. The program is funded by a federal Resident Opportunity Self Sufficiency grant. In addition to training, the program seeks area employers who are interested in hiring employees with the skills the program will furnish.
