The American Cancer Society has announced that Michael Rhode, the city councilman who helped found the Meriden-Wallingford "Relay for Life," has been named Volunteer of the Year at the regional level. According to Mary Kate Doherty, ACS's regional executive for development and special events, Councilmember Rohde was chosen for his leadership and skills in putting the whole relay together. The City of Meriden won the Distinguished Service Award. At the awards dinner many volunteers were also recognized for their efforts, time and help.
