Description: (In the event of inclement weather, attendees will be notified of changes via email; if we need to postpone, we will move the session to the next week - so pencil in some additional days toward the middle - end of March.)

Back by popular demand! Are you currently in business and looking to be more informed on your "living business plan", changing your business structure, insurance, and financing issues that are so important to the success of your business? We are here to help. Maybe you want to START a business and need to find out A-Z how to do it and do it RIGHT! We are here to help. The Midstate Chamber of Commerce, SBA, SCORE, and the City of Meriden are presenting this 6-session program that is designed not only for people looking to start a business, but also for people already in business that want to make 2015 their best year yet!

Each session will include refreshments and materials. Refreshments are from 5:30 to 6:00 pm with the program starting at 6:00 pm SHARP. The rest of the evening there will be a combination of power point lectures from SBA presenters, SCORE volunteers, hands-on exercises, and presentations by local business professionals. We encourage you to register and attend all six sessions. You can expect to walk away with great information and key contacts I the community to network with in the future!

Cost: just $10 per session or $30 for all six sessions (recommended). Anyone that is not a chamber member and joins the Midstate Chamber will receive a $30 credit on their membership if you join within three months of the end of the last session!

Description: Join former CT State Troubadour, Mike Kachuba as he sings about the lesser known people and events that shaped Connecticut history in the program "It Happened In Connecticut". Hear about Goody Bassett, the witch of Stratford, The Leatherman, Jack Arabus and other heroes and villains. Mike will demonstrate a wide variety of stringed instruments such as the hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, guitar and more in this educational and very entertaining program.

Here are just a few details from her "short version" bio: Nancy Wyman is serving her second term as our lieutenant governor. A former x-ray technician, she began a career in public service more than 30 years ago when she successfully sought a seat on the Tolland Board of Education. She served 4 terms in State House of Rep where she chaired the Education Comm & led the Approp sub committee on elementary & secondary education. She was the first woman to be elected State Comptroller in 1994. She currently chairs the board of the Interagency Council for Ending the Achievement Gap and is the Chair of the Board of Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace. One of her highest priorities is the welfare of Connecticut’s military and veterans. She is a longtime supporter of the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, is prominent in efforts to raise funds for breast cancer research, has been closely involved with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the National Kidney Foundation and the American Heart Association.

 Meriden & Wallingford Day at Soundtigers Hockey - Webster Bank Arena

Description: The Bridgeport SoundTigers will be playing the Syracuse Crunch during this Meriden & Wallingford Day. The Meriden Youth Theatre will perform the National Anthem on the ice before the game! Organizations and individuals from throughout the community will be at the game. Proceeds from each ticket sale will benefit the United Way of Meriden & Wallingford. The puck drops at 3:00 pm.

 Raising Responsible & Cooperative Children

Description: This is the first of a two day series offered by Franciscan Life Center. Thomas Finn, Ph.D. will be presenting the parenting class entitled Raising Responsible & Cooperative Children for parents with children 13 years old and younger.

Dr. Thomas Finn, a Clinical Psychologist on staff at the Franciscan Life Center, will present this class to help parents to learn about effective communication styles, setting limits, balancing warmth and firmness, and more.

The second part of this series will be held on March 23rd, 2015. It is recommended that you attend both sessions for maximum beneift.

 CPR/First Aid Training

Description: Knowing how to respond to a CPR or First Aid emergency is critical for all of us. EANE's CPR/AED/First Aid training programs meets the OSHA requirements and is a great tool for training your employees on the latest skills and techniques in life-saving procedures. Certification through the National Safety Council is provided to all participants who successfully complete the course and pass the written exam. Instructor is Jim Oca.

CPR/AED and First Aid courses can be taken as individual sessions as well as follows: CPR/AED - 9:00am - 12:00pm - cost $65 First Aid - 1:00pm - 4:00pm - cost $65

NOTE: Class size is limited. Participants are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothes because of the hands-on nature of the CPR program. Also, be aware that the new CPR guidelines can be physically challenging.

 St. Patrick's Day Parade

At Parker Ave. to Bradley Ave.

Description: The Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will run from Parker Ave. through downtown and ending at Bradley Ave. Again this year, the Midstate Chamber of Commerce's Young Business Leaders Group will walk the route and collect food and monetary donations to be distributed to local food pantries.

There are 3 ways to help: - Bring a non-perishable food or canned goods on the day of the parade. - Canned goods can be dropped off at Bongiovanni's Ionsurance, 107 E. Main St., Meriden; Café Dolce, 33 W. Main St., Meriden; Westaff, 639 Research Parkway, Meriden; Meriden YMCA, 110 W. Main St., Meriden; or at the Midstate Chamber of Commerce, 3 Colony St., Suite 301, Meriden. - Take up a food collection at your business. Our YBL group will collect your donations on Friday before the Parade. Please notify us if you have items for pick-up.
